Duke of Albany was built by John Brown's shipyard on Clydebank in 1907 and was the last of the single funnel, twin screw vessels. She had a length of 330ft and a gross tonnage of 2259. She was in service for only a few years as a Belfast steamer before being requisitioned by the Admiralty in 1914, and was used as an armed boarding vessel. On August 25th she was torpedoed and sunk in the North Sea by U-27.
